Moonlight Sonatas for an invisible audience

Beethoven wrote the Moonlight Sonata. The pianists Vasco Dantas and Daniel Bernardes played sonatas in the moonlight... for an invisible audience. Not less aware or more distant for that matter. Just at other latitudes that distance has also brought closer.
Under a more or less starry moonlight, the Monastery of Alcobaça was "dressed" according to protocol, warm, welcoming and intimate lights, cables, speakers and cameras, stage elements, platforms and all the necessary technical equipment for the realization of a concert of this magnitude. Ah! and, of course, the grand piano.

But the audience stayed at home. In the words of André Cunha Leal, one of the two artistic directors of Cistermúsica - Alcobaça Music Festival: "it comes from the Alcobaça Monastery and reaches everyone's home". And, under the watchful eye of technicians, producers and even the other artistic director, the ceremony took place comme il faut. Everything within the normality. Or of the new-normal, in which the audience cannot be seen but is still feeling. Wherever they are.

Cistermúsica Non Stop, one of the most awaited days of the festival, was livestreamed. The programme included piano recitals by the acclaimed Vasco Dantas Rocha and Daniel Bernardes.

“DGPC could not be more pleased with the 28th edition of the Festival, which continues to be one of absolute excellence, on the scale of the monument that hosts it. It was a great joy to be able to carry out the Festival in 2020, especially, in this adverse moment we are living and, therefore, the Festival has taken on an even greater significance.”
